Steve McNair died today-terrible tragedy-but we can learn a lot from Steve.  He was an all time great on the gridiron-He found his flow when he scrambled and let it go. His strength was his ability to react and create on the football field. Are you like that-do you find your flow when you are creating and reacting instead of planning? If so, be like Steve and stop over planning and you will find your flow more frequently.

Yesterday, we witness the passing of a creative genius-Michael Jackson.  He was not just innovative in his song, but also in his dance. His moon walk and amazing moves at the Grammys is legendary, as well as his videos such as Thriller and Beat it. But we also noticed that Michael Jackson was one strange dude. He wore some unique outfits, like his  Seargent Pepper  uniform, his gloves, or his masks to cover his face. We also noticed how his face changed over the years due to continual plastic surgery. Michael was one strange dude, but at the same time, that is what fueled his creative genius.

We know in psychological research and creative studies, that people who have divergent thinking and perhaps have shades of mental illness (Michael seemed to be suffering from something, but no one knows for sure what his disorder was) can also be incredibly creative. As the prototypical example, Vincent Van Gogh was institutionalized and even cut off his ear.

We need to embrace this uniqueness in others, for that is what breeds change in our culture! Michael Jackson was definitely one of a kind and I for one will miss all of his creativeness as well as his eccentricities!

Brooke Astor is known as the Grand Dame of New York. She recently died at 105 but gave away millions to New York museums, libraries and zoos. On the show-Sunday Morning-people who knew her said she was much more than a great philanthropist. They all said that Mrs. Astor was one of the happiest people they knew-always smiling. laughing and living life. Perhaps Mrs. Astor was extremely happy because she gave away so much money. Recent psychologicial studies found that giving away lightens our heart and puts us in a good mood.  Mrs. Astor lived Full Throttle and she found the secret to a happy and long life-I would like to believe it so!!

Shawn Johnson wins DWTS. Yes, she is cute and yes she is a gymnast, and yes, she had a great chance of winning from the start. But it goes much deeper than that. I did a mental toughness segment on DWTS last season and stated that these stars have to be mentally, emotionally, and physically tough. They have to continually learn new dance steps, deal with the pressure as well as the training regimen. Given that Shawn Johnson trained for the Olympics-where she learned to deal with continual pressure and scrutiny-she was the hands down favorite to win-and she did.

In any competition, you need talent-but you also need mental and emotional toughness to win-Shawn Johnson had all three!

The famed golfer, Jimmy Demaret once said, “It is said that we should give an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth-I believe that is a bit harsh-I believe in a joke for a joke”. He knew humor was one of the best antidotes to performing your best and perhaps that helped him win a handful of majors
       President Barack Obama follows the same philosophy. Last night, speaking at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, the President gave playful digs at his critics.
        The Republican party was a favorite target-specifically, Former Vice President Dick Cheney. President Obama joked that Cheney couldn’t make the dinner because he was writing his memoir, “How to shoot friends and interrogate people.” It was a reference to Cheney’s support of harsh interrogation and his accidental shooting of a hunting companion
       To the Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, Obama
said that the Republican party does not qualify for a bailout and Rush Limbaugh does not count as a troubled asset. But his jabs were not just for the Republicans but also at himself and stated that no former President has ever named three commerce secretaries this quickly- which is in reference to the President’s two former top choices for the position dropped out.
He also jabbed Vice President Joe Biden’s knack for speaking off the cuff and said his administration has helped in bring in young faces-refereing to Arlen Specter who is 79-years-old.
        Follow the President’s lead. Don’t give a push with a push-especially if a colleague is causing you distress. But rather, make fun out of a tough situation to alleviate your pressure.

Lebron James wins his first NBA MVP. And I meant first, because we all know it is one of many.
Did you see his appearance on 60 minutes a few weeks back?
Lebron James came across as a very mature man who knows his destiny-to be the best basketball player in the NBA.
While he is very confident, he is actually humble and knows his place in history. I am glad to see superstars who act as Lebron does and I wish him all the best!

The Standard & Poor’s index has rallied 29%. The 9.4% April gain was the best in 9 years.
What does this all mean?
We have a collective unconscious as Jung has stated. When we as a society believe things are going bad, we stop buying and the stock market falls. But, if we as a society, believe in our society, and have confidence we can pull out of this downturn, we will.
We need to turn our collective unconcious into hopeful collective thinking-we can turn the stock market around with hope and confidence.

flu. Friends have told me not to travel. Vice President Joe Biden mentioned on national TV to be careful with your travel-and now many
people are in a panic.

Will it become a pandemic?
Will it kill a lot of people?

Let’s be mentally tough with the Swine Flu.
Until the Center for Disease Control makes a mandate to stop travelling and
stay inside, let us live our lives and stay the course.
